Select Research and Evaluation highlights include:
Summative Evaluation of The Primary Health Care Transition Fund
The Alder Group carried out the summative evaluation of the Primary Health Care Transition Fund (PHCTF) for Health Canada, an $800M fund to support provinces and territories in their efforts to reform the primary health care system. The Alder Group gathered, analyzed and interpreted data through the development and reporting on four comprehensive lines of evidence—a document review, stakeholders’ interviews, a detailed web-based survey as well as a wide-ranging literature review. The Alder Group also developed and produced the final report.
Evaluation of the Healthy Weights Areas for Investment in Mission
The Alder Group was engaged to develop a plan to evaluate the impact of Healthy Weights Area for Investment in Mission (HW AIM), a five year multi-component project conducted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario to increase physical activity and access to healthy food among school-aged children. The Alder group provided evaluation, facilitation and research services for the development of an evaluation design and plan. More specifically, this involved the development of a program logic model, the organization of a stakeholder workshop, and the development and implementation of an e-delphi process to refine the evaluation framework.
The AIDS Community Action Program Review
As part of the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) initiated a review of the AIDS Community Action Program (ACAP), a grants and contributions program designed to support a community-based response to existing and emerging issues associated with HIV/AIDS in Canada. The purpose of the review, carried out by The Alder Group, was to determine the extent of alignment of ACAP with the initiative to make recommendations on how the program could most appropriately be positioned to contribute to desired outcomes. The program review was carried out in two phases. First, data collection consisting of a selective review of ACAP documentation and a bilingual survey of over 40 federal, provincial/territorial and community and individual key informants using a web-based questionnaire. Secondly, data analysis of results from Phase I was complemented by selective interviews with program experts. The Alder Group then developed recommendations for PHAC for strengthening ACAP’s contribution to the Federal Initiative.
Driven to Quit Evaluation
The Alder Group conducted a process and outcome evaluation of the 2006 Driven to Quit Challenge, an annual smoking cessation campaign by the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division.
Evaluation of Smoking Cessation Workshops
The Alder Group was selected to carry out the impact evaluation of the Brief Counseling for Smoking Cessation and Smoking Cessation for Future Facilitators workshops, two of the core training events offered by the Program Training and Consultation Centre, Cancer Care Ontario.
Canadian Policy Research Networks Online Policy Inventories Evaluation
The Alder Group carried out a process and outcome evaluation of the Kids Canada web-based policy inventories for the Canadian Policy Research Networks. This program evaluation included the development of a logic model and evaluation framework. The framework set the stage for a more detailed evaluation planning including data collection models and tools, and a project work plan. The Alder Group also implemented the evaluation plan, by conducting key informant interviews and developing an online survey. All data was gathered, analyzed and interpreted, and presented in a final evaluation report with recommendations for program development.
