More specifically, reporting on achievements around the topics of education, core competencies for public health and enumeration of public health capacity.

Meeting Reports
The Alder Group has carried out hundreds of meeting reports for a wide range of events and consultations. A select list of results from our rapporteur services include the following:
Pan-Canadian Healthy Living Strategy Consultations
The Alder Group carried out a National Consultation on an Integrated Pan-Canadian Healthy Living Strategy on behalf of Health Canada and the provincial/territorial ministries of health. This assignment required extensive background in the broad social determinants of health and the Canadian health system as a whole. Key activities included: three pre-consultation meetings; nine regional roundtables; preparation of the consultation workbooks (English and French), including one for Aboriginal audiences; development of a project and public web site (including background materials, glossary, meeting information, online registration and online consultation workbook); analysis and preparation of summary reports from the roundtables and the workbook submissions; logistical management for consultation meetings; preliminary program development for the national symposium; writing draft strategy document for discussion at symposium; project evaluation; and support for the consultation follow-up. Approximately 370 delegates attended the roundtables and 945 workbooks were submitted online. The Alder Group wrote, edited and translated all meeting reports for this initiative.
Pan-Canadian Public Health Goals Consultations
The scope of this project included planning and implementation support for the Pan-Canadian Public Health Goals Strategy national launch and ensuing provincial/territorial roundtable meetings. With extremely short notice, tight time lines, and high expectations on the part of both sponsoring Ministers’ Offices and a range of both government and non-governmental stakeholders, The Alder Group was able to quickly mobilize its resources to provide PHAC with effective research and writing services to get this initiative launched and running. This project is a good reflection of the capacity of The Alder Group to mobilize and provide a full range of related services of the highest quality. A consultation workbook was redrafted, a conceptual framework for the consultation was developed and regional meeting reports were drafted and translated quickly for web publishing within 48 hours.
Technical or Recommendations Reports
Building Healthier Children (Canadian Living Foundation)
The Alder Group managed a national consultation and dialogue sponsored by the Canadian Living Foundation, Breakfast for Learning to strengthen nutritional health for children in Canada by promoting best practices in school-based nutrition programs. The initiative involved a series of regional workshops across Canada, community consultations and dialogues and culminated in a national consensus-building meeting in October 2000. The primary products included nine information sheets titled Building Healthier Children: Guidelines for Best Practices in Community Food and Nutrition Programs for School Children and a conference statement to guide planning and action at the national, provincial and territorial and local levels.
Development of Competencies for health promoters in Ontario
Health Promotion Ontario (HPO), which represents the collective interests of health promoters working at Ontario public health units, hired The Alder Group to develop a set of competencies for health promotion practitioners in Canada. This is one of seven discipline-specific competency development initiatives funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The Alder Group developed a document outlining a proposed set of competencies, which was presented at the HPO conference in May 2007 and at a workshop held at the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) conference in Vancouver in June 2007.
The AIDS Community Action Program Review
As part of the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) initiated a review of the AIDS Community Action Program (ACAP), a grants and contributions program designed to support a community-based response to existing and emerging issues associated with HIV/AIDS in Canada. The purpose of the review was to determine the extent of alignment of ACAP with the initiative to make recommendations on how the program could most appropriately be positioned to contribute to the outcomes of the initiative. Following the program review data collection and analysis, The Alder Group developed recommendations for PHAC staff for strengthening ACAP’s contribution to the Federal Initiative.
