Environmental Scan of Cancer Prevention Policy and Legislation

June 2008

The Alder Group has been selected to carry out an Environmental Scan of cancer prevention policy and legislation as it relates to food, physical activity, alcohol and public education for the new Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Corporation.

The firm placed first in a national competitive process based on The Alder Group’s strengths in Project Management and expertise in carrying out such elaborate research.

Healthy public policy is a critical component of any comprehensive cancer prevention strategy. Healthy public policies encompass legislation, taxation, mandated education, fiscal incentives and organizational change initiatives. Healthy public policies promote the health of individuals and communities by making it easier to adopt healthy practices, making it harder to adopt unhealthy practices and creating healthy physical and social environments.

The Environmental Scan Project is significant in its scope. It includes extensive research on relevant legislation and policy documentation, development of annotations and report writing, as well as the development of a database in a searchable format to make the research results as accessible as possible. It is hoped that these results will provide a baseline measure for future Canadian research.

The Alder Group is using its proprietary Process Blueprint™ methodology to guide the project toward high-impact, measureable results.

The Alder Group is proud of how this project continues to support its corporate strategic objectives by building the firm's commitment to carrying out cancer-related assignments.
