Creative Design Projects

February, 2010

The Alder Group continues to provide its clients with the highest quality creative graphic design and desktop publishing services, rivalling the the best known design firms, at a fraction of the cost.

Two recent projects illustrate our commitment to establishing clear objectives with our clients and developing and agreeing on measurable outcome indicators to demonstrate the achievement of said objectives. As with all assignments at The Alder Group, the Project Management Blueprint methodology was utilized to guide the project to success. To this were added three key ingredients: sound design theory and esthetics, fundamental communications planning principals and an artistic flair second to none.

Active and Free

The Alder Group was previously hired in 2007 to research, write, design and produce this resource aimed primarily at coaches and other adults who work with young women in the area of sports, physical activity and active living generally-speaking, as an alternative to tobacco use. This update assignment consisted of:

  • researching the latest tobacco prevention and cessation trends, as well as tobacco marketing tactics in the field over the last two years
  • synthesizing the research
  • recommending content updates to the resources
  • updating the content of both the main resource guide and the short "Action Primer" handout
  • developing a media challenge contest
  • designing print collaterals to market the media challenge to intermediary groups and the young women themselves

The Aboriginal Shield

This project required an ability to not only lay out text for a student manual on substance abuse prevention for at-risk aboriginal youth, it needed a designer with the experience, approach, talent and project management skills to work in a participatory fashion with our own illustrators and photographers, while enjoining the target audience – the aboriginal youth themselves – to make the final product look and feel like their own. The product: student manuals for grades 5-6 and 7-8 that stand out like the client could never have imagined.
